Lester Tobias was born and raised in West Los Angeles, educated in one of the premier schools of architecture in the world, and trained by several internationally recognized architects.
He began working in construction at an early age and was drafting in a professional firm by nineteen. This early, practical experience gave him a foundation that few architects possess, allowing him to understand every layer of the design and building process.
By the time he was thirty, Lester had already built a significant portfolio of experience and launched his own practice in 1986 under the name Tobias Design Associates. Five years later, he earned his architect’s registration, renamed the firm Tobias Architecture, and established an office in Santa Monica, California.
In 1994, Lester moved both his family and practice to Malibu, California. Over the past three decades, he has become one of the region’s most respected architects, shaping many of its finest residential projects and earning the trust of homeowners, builders, and community leaders alike.
His extensive experience with Malibu’s unique terrain, strict environmental codes, and complex permitting systems has made Tobias Architecture a leader in coastal residential design.
