Designing and building on Malibu Road presents several unique challenges. Perhaps the most daunting are the ever-changing rules of additions and remodels that limit the scope of work before an existing structure loses all previously “grandfathered” construction. There is no question that Tobias Architecture is the preeminent practitioner of the “fifty percent remodel”; the holy grail of addition/remodel projects on the beach in Malibu. This project is another fine example of our continuing mission to push back against the limits of what we consider to be regulatory over-reach, while turning out world-class design and execution for our clients.
