This was an original Matt Kivlin beach house complete with angled walls, painted wood siding and pole house construction. Our client, a confirmed bachelor, wanted a California hacienda that balanced his freewheeling lifestyle with a businessman’s acumen toward resale value. We stripped the house to the studs and enhanced what we perceived as a three-dimensional grid; opening and closing various planes to create visually dynamic volumes throughout the structure. We worked our regulatory magic to expand the height and depth of the non-conforming volume, creating a third story suite and private deck as well as an under-structure gym and sauna. We appointed both the interior and exterior with both Craftsman, Monterey, and Hacienda detailing.
